A major glass roof replacement and refurbishment.

ICPT BP Sunbury - GLRE
Project Summary

Major Glazed Roof Replacement

The International Centre for Business and Technology (ICBT) is a pivotal component of BP's global operations. Located in Sunbury-on-Thames, this diverse and dynamic campus houses approximately 3,500 employees representing over 50 nationalities.

With a rich history spanning nearly a century, the ICBT has evolved from a collection of laboratories into a modern business center. Today, it accommodates a wide range of BP's divisions, including upstream, downstream, and corporate functions. The site also serves as a learning center, fostering the development of the company's petro-technical expertise.

This case study highlights GLRE's successful delivery of a large-scale glass roof replacement and refurbishment project for a high-profile client. The project presented significant challenges due to its scale and complexity.

GLRE's ability to overcome these obstacles, while maintaining safety and quality standards, is a testament to our expertise in the industry. This case study showcases our commitment to delivering exceptional results for even the most demanding projects.

THE CHALLENGE

Rooflight Replacement and Refurbishment

GLRE was tasked with replacing eight high-level glass units on the roof of the ICBT building in Sunbury-on-Thames. The project involved the removal of existing aluminium Brise Soleil panels, a thorough cleaning of the rooflights, and the subsequent identification and replacement of eight defective double-glazed units (DGUs).

Project Scope

To deliver this complex project, GLRE employed the following:

  • Specialist glass lifting equipment
  • IRATA-trained rope access technicians
  • Removal of outdated Brise Soleil profiles
  • Replacement of defective pressure plates and cover caps
  • Installation of eight new DGUs
  • Rigorous safety protocols including ground and roof marshalling to ensure minimal disruption to the building's 3,000 occupants.
THE Solution

Delivering an exceptional Glazing Solution

GLRE successfully delivered a glazing solution that met the specific requirements of BP and ICBT, while remaining within budgetary constraints. This project further strengthens our portfolio of complex glazing projects, showcased on the GLRE website.

The challenging rooftop access necessitated the deployment of our IRATA-certified technicians, who safely delivered glass replacement, inspection, and cleaning tasks. By utilising advanced equipment, such as vacuum lifters, we optimised efficiency and minimised disruption to the building's occupants.

GLRE thrives on complex projects. Nearly 30 years, we've honed our expertise in tackling challenging glazing tasks that push the boundaries of our capabilities. This commitment to excellence sets us apart and drives our continued success.
