THE Challenge

COMPLEX LIFT SHAFT GLAZING REPLACEMENT

A core challenge of this project involved the replacement of nine oversized internal lift glass panels located across various floors and elevations. Each panel required removal, specialist fabrication at our Suffolk facility, and subsequent installation. Given the significant weight and limited access, this phase demanded advanced lifting and positioning equipment.

GLRE boasts a proven track record in delivering complex glazing solutions for high-profile commercial environments. With over three decades of experience, our team possesses the expertise to tackle challenging projects, such as internal lift shaft glazing, ensuring optimal outcomes and client satisfaction.

THE Solution

Internal Glazed Replacements

GLRE was tasked with replacing nine specialist glass panels within the internal lift shafts across multiple floors. This proved to be a complex undertaking due to logistical challenges, restricted access, and the weight of the glass panels.

The project required meticulous planning and execution, including:

  • Coordinating material delivery and site logistics
  • Employing specialist internal access equipment and skilled technicians
  • Developing detailed method statements and risk assessments
  • Implementing a robust traffic management plan
  • Utilising advanced glass handling equipment and IRATA-certified rope access technicians
  • Coordinating ground marshalling to ensure minimal disruption to building occupants

By successfully overcoming these challenges, GLRE delivered a high-quality solution that met the client's expectations and maintained the building's prestigious image.

Glazing Survey & Report

GLRE developed a comprehensive and competitive proposal for the project, which included a detailed site survey, report generation, and cost estimation. Our survey team conducted thorough inspections of the glazing and façade, producing detailed reports outlining the extent of damage, associated health and safety risks, and proposed remedial actions. A dedicated project manager was assigned to oversee the project from inception to completion.

To execute the works, GLRE deployed IRATA Level 3 rope access technicians for the safe removal and disposal of damaged glazing. Our team also utilized rope access to support ground-based operations during the installation of replacement panels. All project costs, including access equipment, consumables, and waste disposal, were included in the initial quote.
