Alexandra Palace, a Grade II listed entertainment and sports venue in North London, features extensive areas of overhead glazing. As part of ongoing maintenance works, GLRE was commissioned to conduct a comprehensive dilapidation inspection of the entire site’s overhead glazed roofing.
Alexandra Palace had been experiencing persistent water ingress problems. Despite multiple attempts to locate the specific points of entry, the client was unable to identify the root cause. This ongoing issue posed a significant risk to the building's interior, affecting both its aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
To address this complex challenge, GLRE was commissioned to conduct a comprehensive dilapidation inspection of the entire site's overhead glazing. This detailed assessment aimed to accurately pinpoint the precise locations of water ingress and determine the necessary scope of works to restore the glazing to a fully serviceable condition.
To effectively assess the condition of Alexandra Palace’s extensive glazed roofing, GLRE deployed a specialised approach. Pairing Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWPs) with the expertise of Level 3 IRATA-certified abseil technicians, GLRE were able to inspect the various glazed roofs and ascertain all information required to create our findings report.
Following the meticulous inspection, GLRE produced a detailed technical findings report. This document presented an analysis of the glazing's condition, including a photographic record of identified defects and areas requiring attention. Furthermore, the report outlined a clear scope of remedial works, providing recommendations to restore and maintain the overhead glazing to optimal standards for years to come. This strategic approach offered Alexandra Palace a roadmap for preserving its iconic roof structure.
